Did you know that the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, stands at a staggering 2,722 feet? But here’s the part most people overlook: engineers dug 162 feet deep into the earth to create a foundation strong enough to keep the building standing tall against fierce winds and sandstorms. In the same way, a solid foundation is essential in education—particularly in math—ensuring that knowledge stands the test of time and empowers students for life.
The most disrupted school year of 2020-2021, many students fell behind. According to McKinsey*, an average K-12 student was five months behind in math and four months behind in English by the end of that year. With schools closed and remote learning challenges, many students became disengaged, leading to a significant "learning gap." The gap widened further during the summer of 2020, exacerbated by the "summer slide." Not only K-12 students but also undergraduate and graduate learners experienced setbacks. The "No Child Left Behind" & now Every Student Succeesd Act (ESSA), policy inadvertently deepened these disparities, leaving too many students with shaky educational foundations.
At IntellyLearn, we believe that just like the Burj Khalifa, every student's education must be built on a rock-solid foundation. Mastery of one topic before moving on to the next is critical, especially in subjects like math, where each concept builds on the previous one. That’s why we’re committed to ensuring students have the fundamental skills they need for lifelong success.
